I'm pretty sure Hammond Inness is nodding to the Hubbards' stories with his The Land God Gave to Cain. And have you read Great Heart, James Davidson and John Rugge's canoe trip adventure to follow the Hubbard route?
Marilyn, I did not know about the Inness book. Must look that up. Also only vaguely aware of Great Heart, but other people have mentioned it to me now.
Fascinating stuff. Apart from anything else, Mina's narrative seems like a modern grief memoir (I can almost see her on the talk show circuit). I wonder who decided on the three complementary narratives. I would like to think Mina wanted George's story given equal time.
Yes, I wonder that too. I didn't track how the book was edited. Of course, Mina would have wanted to include her husband's narrative. She must have known George had a diary, too. Must have been her. I hadn't thought about a grief memoir. And the talk show circuit. That sounds like a travesty. Maybe the Daily Mail would have picked it up. :) It was such a different time. Her name, as author of the book, is actually Mrs. Leonidas Hubbard, Jr. But she was lovestruck, they had only been married two years. Imagine.

You probably met Rugge somewhere along the line. He and his wife, Vicky Palermo, are friends of LVR.
Hmmm. I sure knew Vicky because she was around the Arts Project and perhaps I met her husband. Interesting coincidence!
