Tom, This "irony-guilt insight" phrase made me smile. I guess that's what it is. One of my go-to thought structures is to imagine turning any argument backwards and see what it looks like. The more I look at these chatbots, the less interesting they become. Sigh. Hope you're well.
My understanding is that it is retrained periodically, not continuously, but that much of what is on the Internet makes up part of this training. Millions, if not billions, of words. So putting any individual short story into the database would not make much difference, if any. You can improve the output by better defining the prompts and by offering criticism (which would mean refining your prompts).
I’ve not dipped my toe in the ChatGPT pond yet so your review and ‘test’ is extremely interesting. Perhaps all your readers could send in their version of the love story so we could try and increase the Bot’s capabilities/capacity? Does it read Substack?
fascinating. I have the funniest feeling about the chatgpt’s stories…
Curious to know more about your reaction.
excellent review.
Fascinating
Loved this. ChatGPT can do a lot of things but can it content-produce the irony-gilt insight of The Shredder's singular mind?
(I could ask ChatGPT but I'm too afraid of the answer.)
