I am always envious AN =D admiring of your learning, Doug. You wear it so modestly in person, so when I encounter it on the page like this, I am at first puzzled by my inclination to start picking bits of hay out of what's left of my hair.

Hay! That made me chuckle. You with your Yale PhD. You wear your learning modestly as much as I do in the every day. I wonder why we both do that. In my case, I know that I have been talking to myself for so long that I can't imagine someone else joining the conversation. There would be too much background to explain. I know when we talk, every once in a while you'll let slip a minim of your vast reading and I am envious. We should talk about this.

Here's a belated hat tip to you for this illuminating interview and, along the way, your novel (Elle) which it inspired me finally to discover by chance in a local bookstore and start reading. Juxtaposed with an unlikely bed-book-fellow, but such is the serendipity of a reading journal! ;) Hope you don't mind... https://nowick.substack.com/p/reading-journal-fauci-and-elle
