You have made me want to re-read "Settlers of the Marsh." I've hardly thought about that book (or Grove) since 1978, when I read it in Canadian Lit. I also want to look for Djuna Barnes' book. So thanks for all of that.

Two such different books, except that the author of one is the model for a character in the other. Compare, also, the treatment of Robin Vote in Nightwood and Clara Vogel in Settlers.
