Hello! Thank you for sharing your story. I am also a descendant of Dr. John Dease and Jane French. I am Métis from the Red River Settlement, a descendant of two of John Dease and Jane French's children, John Warren Dease and Charles Johnson Watts Dease. Charles Sauvé, my 2nd great grandfather, along with his mother Marie Suzanne Sauvé (née Dease - daughter of Charles Johnson Watts Dease and Louise, a First Nations woman) and his siblings lived and grew up alongside the Riel family in St. Vital. He married Julie Larivière, cousin to Louis Riel. Charles Sauvé, along with Louis Lavallée, Riel's brother-in-law, were appointed by the Métis National Committee to retrieve Riel's body in Regina and keep vigil over the body while on the train and back in St. Boniface. I'm also a descendant of Pierre Gladu and Nancy Dease mentioned above. Their daughter, Marie Gladu, my 2nd great grandmother, married André Carrière, 2nd great grandfather. Their son Albert Carrière married Elizabeth Sauvé (my great grandparents), daughter of Charles Sauvé and Julie Larivière mentioned above...and the mind keeps spinning : )

Christiane, Lovely to hear from you. I really had no expectation of anyone finding this post, let alone having something to add in the way of genealogy. Yes, it does make a person's head spin, doesn't it? You are deeply embedded in the Dease-Riel-Gladu. It would be fun to be in touch. I will send you an email.

I share your ancestry of John Warren Dease and Charles Watts Dease. John Warren Deases' daughter Marguerite married William McMillan son of James McMillan. Needless to say, I too am engulfed in the amazing history of our Metis ancestors. So, my grandparents, Virginie Alexandrine Ranger and Leonide Turcotte were related. Virginie was descended from Charles Watts Dease and Leonide from John Warren Dease.

I am stunned (but not surprised) by the depth of your research in your family history exploits. The detail in this post alone makes my head spin!

Kathy, It made my head spin, too. As you know from your own book, writing these things down frees the mind from the spinning. You get to move on. This one has been niggling away at me. It used to be part of the larger book, but no longer fit there.
