The word chatGPT fills me with the same ennui as terms like “mortgage points” but this is actually fascinating.

Fantastic that you made the AI program admit its preference for the "uplifting" story. I never got that far. What I did find, when I asked it to write a scene, was a flat-footed, pedestrian "on the nose" version of the interaction, without a speck of humor, irony or human feeling. A writer I follow on TikTok gave ChatGPT detailed outlines of her six novels and asked the AI to compose first sentences. The result was pathetic and hilarious. The ChatGPT opening for "Gatsby" would sound something like this: "I knew a man named Jay Gatsby whose ill-gotten wealth never made up for his unrequited love for another man's wife." Go for it ChatGPT, just suck every drop of life out of the story. So ...I'm not worried, not yet, anyway.
