Thanks, Cheryl. Yes, I think any farmer would relate to this. Makes you think and wonder how someone might interpret your farm layout in 300 years, doesn't it? Also makes me think of all the post production work you guys used to do when you grew vegetables and the amazing sorting machine Martin designed.

Loved reading this Grenada writing, Douglas. The images remind me of the plantation museum on St. Croix, which was the first Caribbean island to abolish slavery following a revolt against the Dutch (now one of the US Virgin Islands). Dirty, dirty sugar...

Thanks, Mary. I actually had a photo of a St. Croix wind-powered sugar mill I was going to use, but the whole thing was getting too long and awkward. As for sugar, well, it's just a plant. It was planter greed and consumer demand that made it dirty. Even today, we tend to ignore the consumer's role in perpetuating abusive labor practices.

Thanks, super interesting! We just came across the spectacular ruins of the old Requin Estate. While doing research about what we were looking at, I came across your page. The shaft between the two walls you did see is definitely of the waterwheel. The one in Requin is giant and still in place. A Very interesting, beautiful place to explore. I can provide some pics if you are interested.
